The CFA Southern Region is the geographical region of CFA which encompasses the states of Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Florida, Eastern Tennessee, Southern Kentucky and Washington, DC.

In 2007, CFA's Southern Regional Director, Peg Johnson agreed to allow Household Pets to be scored and awarded on the regional level.  The Top 10 HHPs were honored with a rosette and certificate at the 2008 Southern Regional banquet in Charlotte, NC on June 21, 2008.  The HHP regional awards were co-sponsored by the Hidden Peak and Madcatters Cat Clubs.

In their first scoring show season (07/08), the Southern Region saw an increase in SR clubs hosting HHP judging (from 21 to 29) as well an increase in the total HHP entries (from 225 to 353) in SR shows.  With 28 shows scored, there were 350 HHP entries with 18 absentees, 173 tracked with 156 of those scored for regional awards in the region.

Of the 47 Southern region shows held during the 08/09 show season, 25 of them hosted HHP judging and 24 were scored for regional awards.  A total of 381 hhps were entered in those 25 shows with 361 present for judging.  A total of 182 HHPs were tracked with 146 of them scored for regional awards.

The Top 10 HHPs in the Southern Region were once again honored with a rosette and certificate at the 2009 Southern Region Awards banquet in Melbourne, FL on June 20, 2009.  The HHP regional awards were sponsored by the National Capital Cat Show group.

Another successful show season has passed. Our third scoring show season 2009-2010 had not one but three HHPs with more than 1400 points in 100 finals and a fourth with 966 points.  Of the 173 HHPs tracked (entered and exhibited), 134 were scored for regional awards.  There were 44 Southern region shows held during the 09/10 season with 31 of them offering hhp judging.  In those 28 scored shows, there was a total of 396 HHPs entered, 361 present for scoring and 35 absentees.

At the 2010 Southern Regional Awards banquet in Richmond, VA on June 12th, 2010 the Top 10 HHPs were awarded trophies sponsored by the Freestate Feline Fanciers Cat Club.

The 2010-2011 show season has concluded.  This was the fourth year for scoring the HHPs in the southern region.  We had four very active exhibitors supporting  more than 20 shows with thier HHP entries and two of them with more than 100 rings scored.  Of the 36 SR shows offering HHP competition, 28 of them were scored.   With overall HHP entries lower than previous years, there was still 242 cats that were tracked for regional Top 10 HHP awards.  Of those 242 cats, 166 cats earned points.  In addition, there was another 55 that were present, exhibited but not earning points and only 32 total absentees in 18 of the 36 SR shows eligible for scoring.

The 2011 Southern Regional Awards banquet was held in Lawrenceville, GA on June 11, 2011.  The sponsors of the Top 10 HHP awards included the Colonial Annapolis Cat Fanciers, Greater Baltimore Cat Club, Freestate Feline Fanciers, Mid-Atlantic Show Service, the Kevin Memorial Foundation and Nikkos Tonk Cattery.

We are using the same National/Regional point scoring system as CFA's pedigreed cats and are scoring the HHPs in up to thier top 100 rings/finals.

Since CFA does not score HHPs on the National level, I depend solely on the clubs and exhibitors to record and send me the HHP finals so I can score the region 7 HHPs exhibiting at the show(s).   Currently, six of the seven CFA US regions as well as Japan (region 8) score and award thier HHPs.

CFA recently reinstituted the "recording" of Household Pets.  For a one-time nominal fee your HHP will be assigned a number (which will eventually be used in the catalog when entered in a show) as well as a certificate suitable for framing.

My name is Sarah Sieffert and I am very proud to be your scorer. I have been exhibiting in the HHP class off and on since 1974 and consistently since 1995.  I started with Himalayans in 1972, have a registered cattery and show exclusively in CFA.  I also support and volunteer for a local MD rescue group and TNR program as well as foster rescues and ferals.
